My early work ranged from abstract bronze sculpture using Sahara foam patterns, to mixed-media collage and assemblage. My new series of work involves the use of oilsticks to produce bold, brightly-coloured, logo-like paintings on canvas. I believe a piece of art, instead of providing all the answers for the viewer, ought to allow him the freedom to interpret it from his own perspective and life experience, rather like an "artistic Rorschach" test.

I consider my art to be a kind of visual record of my personal evolution. I start with a creative vision (gleaned from a dream state, the flash of an image from my subconscious, or perhaps a powerful emotional experience) and work with it, allowing its essence to emerge. The final result is often different from my original concept, but by allowing my intuition to take over, the piece ends up being not only a more accurate representation of what I’m trying to say, but a better piece of art.

The works of other artists, particularly Haring, Rauschenberg, Johns, Modigliani and Rodin, are inspiring to me and frequently will ignite a spark within me, triggering a wellspring of new feelings and ideas, which can send me off in an entirely new direction of expression.

My sculpture work satisfies my need to express myself in three-dimensional form, and indulge myself in the sensual and tactile stimulation of working directly with the sculptural medium, engendering an emotional connection with each piece. In contrast, my work in collage and assemblage comes from a more visual, socio-political viewpoint, thus my mind is more actively engaged. My oilstick works, from the series entitled "Passion For Life", hearken back to the simplicity and joyousness of a child using crayons to express her emotions in a burst of colour and form.
