Patricia Willoughby was born on July 6, 1962 in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, and lives in her hometown of Richmond, B.C. A proud British Columbian, Pat believes the West Coast is one of the most beautiful places to live and feels privileged to call it home. After graduating from high school, Pat worked as a word processing operator for 17 years. In the wake of her pain and grief over her mothers death in 1997, Pat felt a driving need to live life with passion, pursue her dreams and create a career in art. She excelled in the courses "Sculpture for Bronze" with internationally-renowned master sculptor, Jean-Guy Dallaire, as well as "Paint, Surface and Collage" with internationally-acclaimed artist, Margaretha Bootsma, at the Vancouver Academy of Art. Ms. Willoughby has exhibited at the Roundhouse Community Centre, at both Port Coquitlam and Coquitlam City Halls, annually in Richmonds "Artists Among Us", at the Richmond Chapters, at VTV (Vancouver Television), Soho Café, Joan Dean Gallery and Virgin Megastore, all in downtown Vancouver, as well as Eclipps Hair Cafe (New Westminster and Burnaby) and Vancouver's Yada Gallery. She participated in the 2002 Granville Island Ferries Garbage Can Art Contest and Auction. Pat also donated a piece to Richmond Nature Park's "Eleventh Annual Cranberry Harvest Festival", and 2 works to the Community Arts Council of White Rock & District's "Artsolutely Fabulous 2002" Fundraiser/Silent Auction. Previous donations include a framed Giclee print for Canuck Place, and a t-shirt bearing her artwork for the Richmond Art Gallery's April Fool's Silent Auction, a painting for their "March Miniatures 2002" Exhibition and Silent Auction, as well as an encaustic painting for their "March Winds" Exhibition and Silent Auction in 2003. Pat is an artist of amazing range and style. Her early work is imbued with traces of such masters as Modigliani, Rodin, Rauschenberg and Picasso, while her latest series of bold, brightly-coloured oilstick works, entitled "Passion For Life", is reminiscent of Vancouver artist, Joe Average and New York's Keith Haring. Into every piece of art she creates, Pat infuses her own unmistakable brand of vitality, dynamism and passion.
